Seminar

We are delighted to announce the formation of a new spring semester 2005 series for the Hall Center ongoing seminar: Indigenous & African Experiences in the Americas

The Hall Center seminar is a component of the University of Kansas/Haskell Indian Nations University collaboration Shifting Borders of Race and Identity: A Research and Teaching Project on the Native American and African American Experience which brings scholars to the borderlands between Native American and African American studies.  These seminars provide a welcoming space for emerging and established university scholars as well as community researchers who wish to present original work that will contribute to the critcal examination of this important interdisciplinary study.  Seminar directors are Zanice Bond de Pérez zbperez@ku.edu , Jim Leiker jleiker1@jccc.edu, and Julia GoodFox jgoodfox@haskell.edu.

This three year seminar welcomes faculty, students, and tribal members whose research and/ or life experiences explore the intersectional analysis of race, ethnicity, and culture; challenge the existing binary concepts of race; and find innovative ways to conceptualize identity. If you would like to be included on our mailing list for the seminar, please send an email with your name, department, and email address to The Hall Center (hallcntr@ku.edu).

Also, the steering committee for this seminar is accepting proposals for roundtables, paper presentations, or panels for the 2004-2005 academic year. If you would like to lead a seminar, please send a one paragraph abstract including submission title, your contact information, and when you would like to facilitate the seminar.
