About 170,000 adults in Kansas are currently living with diabetes. Another 113,000 Kansans also have diabetes—but they don’t know it yet—because they have not been tested. About one of every 10 adults in Kansas now suffers from diabetes, and the numbers are growing fast. The population with diabetes is now increasing by one million people each year across the U.S.
About 95 percent of new diabetes cases are Type-2 and are largely preventable. About 86 percent of Kansans with diabetes are overweight, and more than half are clinically obese. If every overweight Kansan lost just 10–20 pounds and kept the weight off, the increase of new cases of diabetes would be slashed by 60 percent.
A team of the state’s leading diabetes experts will discuss these and other timely issues related to diabetes management in Kansas at Improving Diabetes Care in Kansas. They will provide the latest information about diabetes care and share strategies and techniques that have worked for health professionals who deal with diabetes on a daily basis.
This conference is designed for health professionals involved in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, including physicians, nurses, diabetes educators, dietitians, physical therapists and podiatrists.
At the completion of this conference, participants should be able to:
