Welcome to HSES 489 Health & Human Sexuality

"I am enjoying the online setup. I find that it is liberating to be able to work at my own pace. I would prefer to do every class like this if I could. I find that the quizzes can be challenging even when I have read the chapter completely. I find it to be one of the most interesting and novel courses I have taken at the University.

There are no slackers to bring the average down. I have only myself to compete against!"

—HSES 489 student

What sexuality education did you receive from your parents, society, and religion growing up?  How knowledgable are you regarding sexual orientation, sexual expression, adolescent sex, senior sex, Internet pornography, online solicitation of minors, and other sexuality issues?  How knowledgable are you regarding the spectrum of conservative, moderate and liberal values and beliefs regarding human sexuality issues? How do you feel about your own sexuality, intimacy with a partner, love, sex, and relationships?

This is a senior level course that covers the entire spectrum of human sexuality, using a comprehensive text. All persons are welcome to take this course. Values and beliefs ranging from conservative to moderate to liberal will be respected. You need to know that the text and some course materials contain sexually explicit illustrations, including depictions of sexual intimacy and the sexual response cycle, and graphic pictures of sexually transmitted infections.

The course consists of nine lessons, each designed to help you achieve a foundation of knowledge for specific human sexuality topics.  Each lesson consists of learning objectives, a reading assignment from your text, an online quiz for the assigned text chapter, and optional reflection questions.  Several of the nine lessons also include a written assignment and optional movie viewing.

Blackboard is the classroom management software program used for the course.  You will take your quizzes on Blackboard, deposit your writing assignments into a Blackboard site, and post your discussion board assignments on Blackboard.  Assignments and quiz scores will be posted on Blackboard, so you can check grades as you proceed through the course. Go to Tools>My Grades.
