Course Description

A study of the development of the Impressionist style in France in the 19th century. The theories and techniques of Degas, Cassatt, Manet, Monet, Morisot, Pissarro, and Renoir are emphasized, though lesser-known Impressionist artists are not neglected. The impact of Impressionism on the currents of modern art is examined. Prerequisite: An introductory course in art history plus either HA 261 or HA 455, or consent of instructor.
