KU Online ID•KU Independent Study

Some Independent Study courses require you to use your KU Online ID and password in order to access various portions of the course. These may include e-reserves, Blackboard login pages, library materials and other resources.

If you are a student enrolled in on-campus courses at the University of Kansas, you already know your KU Student ID number and have already established your KU Online ID; you do not need to take additional action. For all other students, please complete the following steps:

1. Request your KU Student ID number. If you are not currently or have never been a KU student, or do not otherwise have or remember your KU Student ID number, please send an e-mail to Laura Diede. Please include the following information in your request:
   
   Subject Line: "Request for KU Student ID number"
   Body: Your Full Name, Address & Phone number, Course in which you are enrolled
   
   For privacy purposes, we will confirm your address and mail a letter containing your KU Student ID to the physical address we have on file.
   
   
2. Register for a KU Online ID by completing the following steps:
   
   • Visit www.ku.edu/technology/online.shtml. Select Create a KU Online ID
   • Log in using your KU Student ID number and your date of birth. Your date of birth should be entered MMDDYY.
   • At the "Create your Online ID" screen, type in your choice for ID and password as indicated.
   • Follow remaining instructions to the confirmation page. Print the page for your records.
   
   Please Note: You are required to change your KU Online ID password twice per year. The deadlines are March 1 and September 1. If you do not change your password, your login will become invalid and you will not have access to your online resources.
