You may request to take an exam only after completing all of the lessons preceding that exam. If you are taking a final exam, all preceding exams must be graded. Some courses have additional requirements so check your study guide or online syllabus to make sure you are ready to take an exam.
Students unable to take exams at the Continuing Education building may request to take their exams at other regionally accredited institutions of higher education. Only college testing centers, career placement centers or Continuing Education offices may be used. High school students may take exams at their high schools, but they must be proctored by a counselor, principal, gifted coordinator or librarian. Incarcerated students may take examinations at the prison when proctored by the education officer. Students in the military may take examinations proctored by a military education officer.
Students must submit an exam request form with complete proctor information 10 days prior to the desired test date. Alternate testing locations will be considered based on circumstance and need. Contact our office for additional information or assistance in locating a suitable proctor.

For the security and integrity of the exam, exams will not be e-mailed or faxed to proctors. For quicker transit, exams may be sent via Federal Express. The shipping cost will be charged to the student.
Please bring a photo ID with you to the exam site, as well as any allowed study aids. Check your study guide or online course syllabus for a listing of materials that you are allowed to use during the exam.
The Independent Study office will not provide any details on the format, length, or nature of the exam, other than the information that is already provided in the study guide or online syllabus.
Due to security and exam integrity concerns, you will not get a copy of your exam after you have taken it. You will receive a report in the mail that contains instructor comments and your grade. If you would like to review the exam itself, you may request a time to view the exam in the Continuing Education building, or with proctor supervision at an off-site testing location.
