Douglas Crawford-Parker is a lecturer in the Department of English at KU where he has taught English 210 numerous times, along with other courses, including English 203 (Introduction to the Essay) and 360 (Workshop in Prose Style). He has also taught at Wichita State University and the Kansas City Art Institute. His primary areas of interest are the essay (and creative nonfiction in general), poetry, and American literature. He has a BA from Cornell University (in history), and MFA from Wichita State University (in creative writing—poetry), an MA and PhD from KU. He is particularly interested in the ways that the study of literature and the study of writing overlap and enrich one another in their understanding of the creation and interpretation of texts. Douglas Crawford-Parker recently won the Langston Hughes Creative Writing Award for poetry, an award given each year to recognize achievement of emerging writers in Douglas County, Kansas.
