How long does it take to receive my graded assignments from the instructor?

We generally allow up to two weeks for grading from the time that an assignment is first submitted by the student to the time it is returned graded. If your assignment has been out longer than that, feel free to contact your instructor directly or call our office to follow up.

How quickly may I submit assignments?

Generally the following rules apply; however, submission guidelines vary by course, so refer to your study guide or online syllabus for specific instructions.

1. The first assignment must be submitted, graded, and returned before you may submit the next assignment.
2. All preceding assignments must be submitted (not necessarily graded) before you may request an exam.
3. Assignments that follow an exam may not be submitted before the preceding exam has been taken.
4. Assignments must be submitted in order unless otherwise specified.
5. The preceding exam must be graded before you may request the next exam.

Can I submit all of my assignments by e-mail?

Most courses allow e-mail submission of assignments. At the time of enrollment, you will receive notification if your course has this option. You may also check the course descriptions online or contact our office to see if a course allows e-mail assignment submission.

What if I do not have e-mail access?

Before you enroll, check to see if e-mail is a required communication mechanism. For most print courses, it is optional, but for online courses, it is typically required.

How do I submit assignments for my course?

There are generally three ways to submit assignments: 1) E-mail, 2) Online web submission forms, or 3) Through postal mail. Assignment submission guidelines vary by course, and specific instructions are found in your study guide or online syllabus.

How do I submit assignments using an online form?

Many of our online courses have online assignment submission forms. You may either enter your responses directly into the form or type the document before copying and pasting the material into the web form.

What are the technology requirements for an online course?

Most Independent Study online courses require an Internet connection and a Web browser. Some courses include streaming audio or video, for which you will need the RealPlayer plug-in and speakers. A few offer additional readings in PDF format for which you will need Adobe Acrobat. Links to these free resources for download are provided within the course.
