The Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute is pleased to announce the next exceptional seminar designed specifically for our Fire Service leaders and future leaders in Kansas. This topic is another demonstration of growth to the professionalism and leadership we have in our state. Through this interactive presentation, participants will have an opportunity to immerse themselves in a personal and professional growth experience.
This extremely informational and motivating one-day seminar will be delivered by one of the most nationally renowned instructors on fireground strategy and tactics, Chief John Mittendorf. This unique one-day seminar will focus on the many responsibilities that are presented by the modern fireground to responding Chief Officers of the department. In addition, these considerations will be applied to the five major types of buildings—residential, center hallway/garden apartment, mini-mall, warehouse, and high rise—which will allow for interaction from participants.

John Mittendorf is a 30-year veteran of the Los Angeles City Fire Department and he held the rank of Battalion Chief until his retirement in 1993. He has been a member of the National Fire Protection Research Foundation on Engineered Lightweight Construction Technical Advisory Committee. He has provided training programs for the National Fire Academy, UCLA and the British Fire Academy in England. He has acted in an advisory capacity for five college fire science advisory boards and is the author of numerous fireground articles for magazines in the United States and Europe. He is the author of the books Ventilation Methods and Techniques, Truck Company Operations, and Facing the Promotional Interview. He currently lectures in the United States and the United Kingdom on strategy and tactics, truck company operations, fireground operations, ventilation operations and the complete fire officer. He is a member of the editorial advisory board of Fire Engineering magazine, and received the Lifetime Achievement Award at FDIC 08.
