How soon do I have to register? When will the course fill up?
We recommend that you register as soon as possible so that you can secure your place, and we can prepare the proper amount of course material. To find available space in a specific course, please call 785-864-5823, or toll-free in the U.S. 877-404-5823, or e-mail kuce@ku.edu
May I transfer from one course to another without a financial penalty?
Yes. You may transfer as long as space is available. If the course you transfer into is more expensive, we will bill you for the difference. If the course is less expensive, we will refund the difference.
Can a company substitute one enrollee for another without an additional charge?
Yes.
I am receiving invoices for a future course in which I am enrolled, even though my organization cannot pay until after I have attended the course. What should I do?
Please contact us at kuce@ku.edu or call 785-864-5823, or toll-free in the U.S. at 877-864-5823 and explain that your company or agency is unable to pay before the course is held. We regret any inconvenience that it may cause for you to receive invoices before you are able to pay. You will still be registered for the course.
Who comes to your public courses?
Generally, our participants are professionals who are college graduates. Many have advanced degrees.
People from all over the world, as well as the United States, come to our public courses. Last year people from 32 countries, and 38 states and the District of Columbia attended. All courses are taught in English.
How many people are usually in a course?
Last year our average course size was 23 participants.
Can I receive continuing education credits for taking a short course?
Yes. You receive one CEU for 10 hours of instructional time (i.e. a 21-hour-class is worth 2.1 CEUs). CEUs are printed on each participant’s certificate of attendance. CEUs may not be used for college credit.
When do you decide to cancel a course due to low enrollment?
We usually make the decision to cancel a course two weeks before the course starts. In the event a course is cancelled, the University of Kansas’ liability is limited to the registration fee.
Where do I stay?
For our courses in the United States we have reserved a limited number of hotel rooms for our attendees. In order to receive the discounted rate, you must state that you are attending a University of Kansas Aerospace Short Course and make a reservation by a specific date. Those who make their reservations after the reserved rooms are filled and/or after the deadline, may not receive the aerospace short course discount. Visit this link for travel and lodging information. We especially encourage people to make their hotel reservations well in advance for San Diego courses.
Are Internet connections available?
All the listed hotels have in-room Internet access and business centers. Internet usage fees are the responsibility of the participant.
Are workout facilities available?
Yes. Hotels have either an exercise room or an affiliation with a local health club.
What do I wear?
Casual, comfortable clothes are appropriate for all courses. Room temperatures are difficult to control so always bring a jacket—even in warm weather. Dressing in layers is best.
Can you accommodate my special meal requirements and dietary restrictions?
Meals are served buffet style so you can select food that is appropriate for your life style. Please let us know in advance when we need to be aware of any dietary restrictions.
I plan to bring a guest with me. Can he/she join us for meals?
We are delighted to include guests in our course meals. However, to attend the lunches, we need to know a week before the course. Guest lunches are approximately $35.
Will we get out early the last day of the course?
We cannot predict this. The number of people in the course and the depth of discussion determine the length of the course on the last day. You should plan to stay until the time specified.
How much course material will there be?
The amount of material varies from course to course. Most courses have a notebook; many also have a textbook. The approximate weight and size of the materials are in the confirmation letter. Please take this into consideration when packing for your trip.
The hotel you suggested did not give me a special rate. What should I do?
If you are trying to reserve a room after the room block deadline, the hotel is not under any obligation to provide rooms at the special rate. Please contact Rebecca Clayton at 785-864-8281 or e-mail rclayton@ku.edu for assistance with hotel questions.
When you contacted the hotel, did you state that you were attending a University of Kansas aerospace short course and give the proper group code?
For the Crowne Plaza Hotel—Changi Airports, Singapore, the group code is UE2.
For the Doubletree Guest Suites Southcenter, Seattle, Washington, the group code is UOK.
For the Marriott Mission Valley, San Diego, California, the group code is KANKANA.
For the Doubletree Resort Orlando—International Drive, Orlando, Florida, the group code is UKA.
I can’t attend this year. May I buy the course notes?
We apologize, but the course notes are for participants only and are not for sale. Most of the textbooks we use can be purchased from www.amazon.com.
Will you offer the same courses next year? When will the 2011 course schedule be available?
Most of our courses are offered at least once every year. However, courses on very specialized subjects may not be offered each year. Check this website in late October for the public course schedule for 2011. If you would like to receive e-mail notification when the schedule is posted, please e-mail kuce@ku.edu to be added to our mailing list.
Can you hold a course at my company?
Please contact our program director in charge of on-site courses, Zach Gredlics, at 785-864-1066, gredlics@ku.edu. He will be glad to discuss this option with you.
How can I get on your mailing list? How can I correct my name and/or address? How can I get off your mailing list?
You may e-mail kuce@ku.edu to give us any additions or corrections to your name and/or address. If you have attended one of our public courses or inquired about our program, you should already be on our mailing list.
We cannot make corrections on lists that are leased from other organizations. If you receive more than one brochure, please pass one along to someone who might be interested in our courses. KU Continuing Education does not share, sell, or rent its mailing lists.
