David Downing is a professor emeritus of aerospace engineering at the University of Kansas. He teaches courses and does research in advanced flight control, instrumentation systems, and flight-testing. Downing was formerly an aerospace engineer at NASA Langley Research Center, a systems engineer at the NASA Electronics Research Center, and an assistant professor of Systems Engineering at Boston University. He received a B.S.E. degree in aerospace engineering, an M.S.E. degree in instrumentation engineering from the University of Michigan. He also earned an S.C.D. degree in instrumentation engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
